Chênes Blaques

Chênes Blaques sits on a private estate of five hectares between Bonnieux, Gordes and Lacoste, three of the most photographed villages in Provence. The land is oak and cedar, and it does the work that no amount of design can: it makes the property quiet. There are no neighbours in view. The Luberon massif closes the horizon on one side, Mont Ventoux on the other.

The house is two buildings that have learned to live together. On one side, the original bergerie, an old stone sheepfold restored rather than rebuilt, holding twelve sleeping places across five bedrooms. On the other, a fifty square metre living room of an entirely different century, glass on three sides, opening straight into the trees. A large kitchen joins the two and seats everyone at once, which is the point. This is a house designed for a week with the same group of people.

Outside, terraces step down from the farmhouse toward a heated pool measuring twelve metres by six, warm from April through October. A wooden deck sits apart from the house for yoga and Pilates, with a summer living area beside it and a clear view of Mont Ventoux. There is a pétanque court, table tennis, a gym, and enough space between all of it that nothing feels stacked on top of anything else.

The padel court is new, and it is the reason this property belongs in the network. Padel in the Luberon is rare. Most Provençal estates offer a tennis court that has not been resurfaced since the eighties, or nothing at all. A private court on five hectares of forest, twenty minutes from Gordes, is a different proposition. Bring three friends and you have a week of matches with no booking, no club, no drive.

Guests are welcomed on arrival by the owners. Linens and towels are provided, cleaning is included at check in and check out and available mid stay on request. A chef, a nanny, a massage therapist, a yoga and fitness coach and electric bike rental can all be arranged in advance.

Chênes Blaques sleeps twelve across five bedrooms and four bathrooms. High season is a full week, Saturday to Saturday. The rest of the year runs on a three night minimum.
